Whether you’re a development professional, community leader, student or just a citizen looking to be informed the Waterloo International Development Conference 2014 is for you.
The theme of Waterloo’s student run IDC 2014 is “Global Chains: Human Trafficking Hits Home”. Human Trafficking is both a historical and modern day epidemic, which the field of International Development is not immune to. Development is plagued with the realities of migrant forced labor, sex trafficking, child trafficking, debt bondage and all other forms of human trafficking. It is key that as development strategies evolve they address and assess the realities and threat of globalized human trafficking.
Through a wide spectrum of speakers, including non-governmental organizations, academia and government agencies, the conference seeks to bring to light the realities of human trafficking and it effects on development on both a local and international scale. The conference is intended to spread knowledge, provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of research and professional work, and provide an opportunity to development professionals and those interested in the field of development to network with and learn from each other.
